As the new year starts, for many families thoughts turn to booking already next big summer trip. To help you find a destination that’s fun for the little ones too we compiled 10 places to go with kids. No matter whether you want a relaxing break or something a little more adventurous, there’s a bit of everything.
Kerala offers the Indian experience at a more manageable pace for families with babies or small children. Start in quaint Fort Cochin, a small, chilled-out quarter of Kochi with good hotels and restaurants. The peaceful backwaters can easily be reached on a day trip from here, but if you want to overnight along serene waterways on a houseboat made of wood and palm leaves, start out from Alappuzha (Alleppey) or Kumbakonam. Kids will also love the state’s national parks, with elephant spotting in Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary and also bamboo rafting.
NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK
The city that never sleeps is an incredible family-friendly destination for everyone at every age. New York is home to some of the most famous attractions in the United States, such as the Natural History Museum, Empire State Building, and the Statue of Liberty. There are available tours about hip hop music, graffiti, and every kind of food. Kids can enjoy the elevated High Line or visiting the animals at the Central Park Zoo.

Jackson Hole has more outdoor activities than there are hours in the day. You can raft the scenic Snake River, tube down the runs at Snow King Resort in Jackson or explore the magical ice castle and ice skate in Teton Village.

Costa Rica is an ideal family travel playground, the country is filled with exotic wildlife, including an abundance of colorful birds, monkeys and the incredibly adorable sloth. You’ll find gorgeous beaches and lush jungle, as well as the opportunity for scenic hikes, swimming under waterfalls, zip lining, kayaking and more. If you're lucky, you might even be able to witness a mother turtle hauling herself up on the beach to lay her eggs, an unforgettable experience for travelers of all ages. Kids as young as six can ride river rapids on a “safari float,” a gentle river ride over Class I and II rapids.
The Scottish capital is small but hosts a number of fun and educational attractions for the whole family. What makes Edinburgh stand out is its festivals: there are twelve major festivals throughout the year, including the famous Fringe, from a storytelling celebration to a science fest. Also there’s the Museum of Childhood where you can get nostalgic and the kids can get hands-on.
WHISTLER, BRITISH COLOMBIA
This is absolutely one of must-visit citys for families. This picturesque village at the base of the Whistler & Blackcomb mountains provides a wealth of outdoor recreation activities for everyone, during any season.
Winter is the high season, thanks to 8000+ acres for skiing/snowboarding. Snow sports abound for 6 months, from November – April. Head out to ski or snowboard in the morning & spend the afternoon biking, hiking or by picnicking by one of the many lakes.
During warmer months you can enjoy ziplining, mountain biking, or stand-up paddleboarding (SUP). The Peak to Peak gondola between Whistler & Blackcomb mountains will take your breath away and while you’re on the mountain, snap a few photos at the Olympic Rings or Inukshuk statue from the 2010 Winter Olympics. Kids will love the Family Adventure Zone and Treehouse Playground in the village to burn off some energy. Nearby Brandywine Falls is a short drive from the village and offers amazing views of the falls – keep your eyes peeled for black bears along the road!
GLEN ROSE, TEXAS
This Dinosaur Valley State Park boasts some of the best preserved dinosaur tracks in the world. In addition to walking in the humongous footprints left in the Paluxy River, take a covered wagon tour, mountain bike the trails, borrow a fishing pole from the park’s Tackle Loaner Program and visit the museums in downtown Glen Rose, the Dinosaur Capital of Texas.
THE BLACK HILLS, SOUTH DAKOTA
Many come here because of Black Hills to see Mount Rushmore, but there is more. Kids will love digging for mammoth bones, splashing in water parks and exploring Wind Cave, one of the longest in the world. At Custer State Park, there are all sorts of family-friendly activities, including taking a paddle boat out on Lake Sylvan, famously used as the backdrop for scenes in a number of films, including “National Treasure: Book of Secrets,” fishing, horseback riding and wildlife watching. By taking a scenic drive on Wildlife Loop Road, you’ll encounter the famous begging burros, along with bison, elk, deer, pronghorn, mountain goats and more. Hill City offers the chance to relieve the Old West on a historic 1880 steam train, and in Rapid City you can embark on a wildlife safari at Bear Country U.S.A., visit Cosmos Mystery Area where “the laws of nature seem to have gone completely berserk,”.
Might think that this is not one of the most sensible places to go with kids. But Nairobi has access to some wonderful child-friendly attractions. Nairobi National Park, where lions, leopards, giraffe and zebra roam free within sight of the city, is the perfect day trip for wildlife-watching. For a more hands-on experience, try the Giraffe Center where you can feed these elegant, long-necked beasts from a raised gallery, or the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust where orphaned elephants are rehabilitated and prepared for life in the wild.
And of course Disneyland. It can is as magical for adults as it can be for children. You just need to be a kid at heart to enjoy the Happiest Place on Earth. Experience endless fun in Disneyland Park and Walt Disney Studios Park, meet your favorite Disney characters and collect their autographs as souvenirs.
